This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, host Jonathan Foster sits down with friend of the cinema – Writer/Director GARETH EVANS!

Gareth Evans joined us for a Live Q&A double feature screening of his action-packed martial arts crime/thriller classics THE RAID and THE RAID 2 at The Prince Charles Cinema on Monday 15th November 2021. Whilst the first film was on, we managed to get a fun interview with the filmmaker, that you'll hear here.

We discuss Gareth's beginnings as a kid in Wales, exploring some of this early favourite films, how he ended up in Indonesia making movies about the unique martial art Pencak silat, and his relationship with the incredible actors Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, and Joe Taslim. And of course, we touch on his films Merantau and The Raid and The Raid 2.

Mostly, it is just a fun chat about the love of film, martial arts, cinema, old VHS tapes and working at a cinema...
