Alien Abduction : Incident in Lake County aka The McPherson Tape

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas are having a nice Thanksgiving dinner when all of a sudden they see a bright flash of light, and the power goes out. They go outside to investigate, and to their surprise, they witness three aliens outside a spaceship performing a cattle mutilation. When they try to get them to be on the podcast, the aliens shoot at them with laser beams, and chase down Jon and Fil inside their house, looking for a way to get in. Will Jon and Fil survive this close encounter?

It's week 2 of I WANT TO BELIEVE, our Spooky Ooky alien season, and we are talking about two films in one bite-sized episode with Dean Alioto's 1989 found-footage cult film, UFO ABDUCTION aka THE McPHERSON TAPE, and the 1998 made-for-TV remake, ALIEN ABDUCTION : INCIDENT IN LAKE COUNTY aka THE McPHERSON TAPE. Yes, they are both confusingly referred to as "The McPherson Tape".

A huge inspiration on found footage films like The Blair Witch Project, these two strange pieces of media had many believing they were watching real footage of a family being hunted down by space aliens. Tune in to hear a crazy story of DIY filmmaking, genius marketing, a bunch of lies and conspiracies, as we tackle this film that had a young Jonathan terrified of little grey men for years...
