Close Encounters of the Sixth Kind

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas see a UFO and start having visions of a large hill with a flat top, leaving them to wonder what it all means. When they finally see the structure in the news on TV, they race to Devil's Tower in Wyoming to get answers!

With the Spooky Ooky season upon us, we decided to shake up our usual October episodes of "Vampires, Witches, and Werewolves, Oh My", and look to the night skies for the new series – I WANT TO BELIEVE. Over the next few weeks, we'll be looking at a selection of Alien-based sci-fi films that range from fantastical to utterly horrific to conspiracy-laden, to discover if the truth really is out there...

We kick things off with some light fare, with a not-so-light Mamma Jamma episode dedicated to one of the best extra-terrestrial films of all-time from Steven Spielberg (that isn't E.T.), his 1977 classic, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Terri Garr, Melinda Dillion and François Truffaut. Dive in, as we explore how this film came to be, a bit of how it was made, and some of the influences for characters and get way too deep into UFO conspiracies, modern media, and J. Allen Hynek's close encounters classification system.

“I know this sounds crazy, but ever since yesterday on the road, I've been seeing this shape. Shaving cream, pillows... Dammit! I know this. I know what this is! This means something. This is important.
