Last Action Hero bombs the box office

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas head to New York City, where a kid gets his hands on a magical cinema ticket that allows him to jump into his favourite movies.

Just when we thought the Filaversary arc was over, and we could move on to some films about cinemas in film, we got pulled back in with the 1993 meta-action comedy, LAST ACTION HERO, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. So, we are getting meta with a new arc, called Fire in the Projection Booth, within an arc (the Filaversary 1993 arc), and showing this underrated box office bomb some love.

You have the writer of Lethal Weapon, the director of Die Hard, and the biggest action star on the planet all under one roof for this one. What could possibly go wrong? Well, how about a lot of rewrites, dumb promotional tactics, and Columbia thinking Arnie could take on the biggest movie of 1993 (and, for a few years, of all-time) by releasing the movie a week after Jurassic Park.
